Irish Brown Bread

You can’t beat homemade bread fresh out of the oven. Here is a family favourite to enjoy around your dining table with family and friends.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups plain flour

  • 1 1/2 cups wholemeal flour

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 1/2 cups milk

Method

  • Mix dry ingredients together.

  • Make well in centre and add 1 cup of milk. Mix.

  • Add remaining 1/2 cup milk. Mix.

  • Move dough to a floured board. Knead for approx 1 minute.

  • Shape into a round and cut a cross across the top (as per picture).

  • Bake 180 degrees C for approx 40-45 minutes. Base will sound hollow when tapped, when cooked.

    *Double the recipe for a larger loaf (and cook for slightly longer)
